(More customer reviews)Ok, it's not worth $1,000 or $800, I got it at $599 and still think it was quite an expense, but it is my favorite caracter from the series and always wanted to dress up as the famous Darth Vader. First of all, Vader is supposed to be tall, VERY tall, so the costume (standard version) is made for at least a 5'10" person, the taller, the better you will look. Why?, mainly because of the proportions of the helmet, chest piece, cape and jumpsuit. In some descriptions the therm "DELUXE INJECTION-MOLDED" is used to describe the plastic pieces, but they're not a big deal.
Complete Vader helmet: it comes in two pieces, one is the face mask with inside padding and breather device that you can also find sold separetly in stores. The mask comes with adjustable straps for securing to your head and velcro pieces sticked to the top part so you can attach the other piece wich is the helmet. The two pieces are made of solid black plastic and look great, but it can get a bit stuffy if you are in a hot or poor ventilated area, some people say you can attach battery operated fans, this can be done because there is a lot of space inside. The complete helmet must be the last piece of the costume you are going to put on because visibility is reduced ALOT, you can only see a bit trough the lenses straight ahead and down in front of you trough the mouth of the facemask, you mus be very careful when you walk around with the helmet on so you don't trip or run over someone else. It is BIG and if you are too short you will look like the guy from the Space Balls movie or some kid playing with your dad's costume. In all, it looks realistic. The breather device uses two AAA bateries. It comes with a black cloth headpiece (sorth of a hood)to absorb sweat and also cover your neck, and is adjustable with velcro.
Cape: great lookig, thick, heavy and made of various pieces of fabric to form a circular pattern at the bottom so it is shorter on the edges and longer in the center, it should drag a bit when you walk around but not mucho so you will trip when you turn. If your'e too short, you will have to have it trimmed down. It comes with two hooks to be attached to the shoulder piece.
Robe: Same as the cape, thick, heavy and great looking, adjust its lenght by trimming as needed. Looks great.
Jumpsuit: made of vinil, leather like, with some linig and hotter than hell so you must wear it only in winter or in cool ventilated areas. One size, maybe to wide and thick, almost impossible to put on by yourself because of the back zipper. The chest piece with lights comes attached to this with its straps but you can remove it if you want to.
Shoulder piece: made of painted plastic, only covers the front and sides, resembles a bit to the ones used in football but lighter and with out the padding. Comes with adjustable straps to secure tightly but because the heavy cape is attached to it, it could be pulled back and be lifted up to your throath so be carefull. It looks cool with the cape on.
Chest piece: a plastic box with non-working buttons and led lights that illuminate in a random pattern, it uses two AA batteries and has an on/off switch. Comes with adjustable straps and attached to the jumpsuit, it can be removed and weared with out the jumpsuit. Because of the lighted pattern, it does get attention.
Belt with attached light boxes. in some item descriptions says it is made of leather, but it is NOT, just plastic. It comes with a non-working plastic bucle because you adjust it with straps on the back, and two plastic boxes that are positioned at each side, wit led lights that stay on. They have an on/off switch and use two AA batteries each.
Shinguards: made of shinny black plastic, with a back zipper to adjust them to your lower legs, you can wear them over boots or just black shoes, they look cool.
Gauntlets: Cheap imitation leather and slightly breathable, but also unconfortable in hot places.
Cod piece: Made of foam, also quite big and unconfortable if you want to seat because you will have to separete your legs in order to do it.
The costume does not look like the guy in the picture, mainly because of the helmet, it is quite big, so again, if too short, you will resemble a wobble-head vader. It does look realistic enough to impress at a costume party, but expect to remove the helmet after a wille because you will get tired. The breather device switch is tricky to use because you will have to get it unnoticed under the shoulder piece, jumpsuit and in to the gauntlet, and you must arranget inside in order to be able to activate it with your hand. I used the costume in a kid's party and it was an instant hit, everyone liked it and wanted to take pictures with the Dark Lord of the Sith. I didn't use the jumpsuit, I wanted to use a black leather jacket and black pants, but ended using a black long sleeved shirt an the pants because it was too hot. Also, be sure to go before wearing this costume, because a toilet trip will be quite difficult to accomplish, hahaha!
You only need a lightsaber to complete the package, so go ahead and get the force fx version, what's a 100 bucks more if you already spent over $500?...
