(More customer reviews)I bought this for my 4 year-old daughter at Christmas time. She, of course, asked for something so ultra-specific, so unusual, that there was no way on earth I'd be able to find it for her (last year it was a purple wooden sled. Yep.). She clearly has not yet grasped how Christmas works - you take them shopping, they want-want-want and can't live without any number of things they see, and Santa brings them some of them and you get to explain how he makes the exact same toys they see in the store and they get suspicious or just go with it.
So, this year she wanted a Lemon Meringue (she of cartoon character Strawberry Shortcake's posse) racing helmet. As god is my witness I have no idea where she pulls these things from. Regardless, rather than carving a helmet out of styrofoam in the shape of Miss Meringue, or just telling her "Santa won't do that" (as I should have), I opted for a vast internet-wide search, at the end of which I came up with this option and I was lucky as it came in yellow.
I won't say that she was elated, or even that she ever uses it but darn it I did my best, and it fits pretty much any size head and is not so cheap that it looks like a 50 ticket prize at Chuck E. Cheese (if you know what I mean). It's really not bad. You could do better but then you'd have to spend a lot more, or carve it yourself, and who has the time?
My only real complaints are that it can possibly pull hair if one isn't paying attention to how it is removed (and if one has the longish hair of a girl), and, the chin strap isn't great for either the claustrophobic or less dexterous child. It will probably need parental intervention/supervision at some point. But you know, it's a toy. A cheap (inexpensive) child's toy made for playing dress up. It works great and I'd buy another one if I had another kid who wanted a very specific helmet for some obscure cartoon character that they didn't make a helmet for. I might disappoint them but I'd still blame it on Santa and move on to another present just like any good parent.
