(More customer reviews)I ordered this item with the intent of removing the hair from the rim, because I am a man and wanted a wizard hat rather than a witch hat. I imagine the hair would look good if worn by a woman who already had long, straight, dark hair. Otherwise, it would be too thin to actually look like a wig or real hair underneath the hat. The lady in the photo has all of the hair pulled forward, there is no hair behind her shoulders. It doesn't come with much hair.
I removed the hair, a simple matter of using a seam ripper, and it makes an excellent wizard hat. The material passes as velvet (though it is cheap polyester velour), and is thick enough to look great. The shape of the hat is just crooked enough to give it an excellent style, like in the Harry Potter movies.
My only real complain would be that the picture shows the hat standing up. It does not do this on its own, the material is way too flimsy. I stuffed mine with cotton batting, and it now looks just like the picture. So if you buy this, I recommend doing the same.
