(More customer reviews)While this costume as is certainly falls in line with the female Halloween costume standard of showing a ludicrous amount of skin (I doubt pirates really wear just a coat and hot pants even on the balmiest of days), it's also very easily customizable should someone prefer a more modest costume. For example, just adding a few items that you probably already have - a dress shirt, some pants, a pair of boots can make this costume look like an even better approximation of a scurvy pirate! Of course, if you want to just wear the materials on their own, that's not too bad of an option either.
The costume itself comes with a coat, a hat, hot pants, and a belt.
COAT: The coat is faux-velvet on polyester; it has black lapels and cuffs with thick gold detailing on both and lace coming out of the cuffs. It's fairly comfortable, but you'll probably have to give it a quick iron after getting it and before you actually wear it anywhere since it wrinkles very easily. It's fairly low cut, so if you're going for that look, the lowest point of the coat will probably be towards the middle of your chest (a little above where the coat button is). The button actually fell off the costume shortly after taking it out of the bag (it's not sewn on very well), so you may have to reinforce the stitching there just in case.
HAT: The hat is foam with black polyester on the outside and a length of gold fabric for the trim and it's construction seems to be that of a sombrero with three corners sewn up to the top. It's a fairly flimsy hat that will probably fly off your head on a windy night, but if that's not a concern it should be fine. The feather is about 3/5ths the size of the feather in the picture and it's just sewed onto the side of the hat.
The belt is a thin trip of faux leather (gray back, black front) with a plastic gold buckle. It doesn't actually fasten and flops around -- I assume if you actually wanted to wear it and have it look nice, you'd have to pin it down or something. The hot pants are just paper thin polyester hot pants -- not really much to say about those except that they're essentially the size and fit of black boy short underwear.
Overall though, it's a fun, pretty good looking pirate costume that's comfortable to wear for the night -- and considering that I only spent $15 bucks on it and it arrived within a few days of my purchase, that's not half bad.
