(More customer reviews)I bought this as a Christmas present -- yes, someone's Christmas list actually had a "Chiquita Banana hat" on it. The person making the request is way too young to know who Carmen Miranda is, but I knew immediately and thus started my quest to find a reasonably priced hat.
The base of the hat is slightly stretchy, and it is a snug fit on a larger head but not uncomfortably snug. I could see this fitting someone with a smaller head as well because of the stretch factor. The two-tone sequins (red and purple) create a perfectly silly but joyful base for the real stars of the show: the glitter fruits. The grapes on this hat do not drape as much as shown in the picture, but maybe that's because the person here who was wearing it has a larger head. The glitter did not come off excessively even though it was handled a whole lot the first day, but the feathers at the top rear are a bit touchy and have the tendency to fall off. These were easily repaired, however, with a dab of glue. The recipient also managed to break the tip off of the banana, but a bit of superglue cured that as well. You will want to keep the hat well away from little children.
All in all, I got what I was expecting and the picture is a decent representation of the hat. It really was quite the sight and got quite a few laughs and inquiries about where such a hat could be purchased. With a bit of care it can be that embarrassing artifact that gets handed down from one jokester generation to another.
