I am a size 14-16, so I ordered the plus size because I was afraid the regular size would be tight with additional clothing under it - the plus size stated 16 and up and the regular size said up to 14. I shouldn't have worried - this costume was made to expand, as this is a one peice costume that looks like a two peice costume. The plus size didn't swim on me too badly, but because the white "under dress" was made out of the same material as the black (thicker velvety costume material)it was too heavy and if I hadn't had a lot of double sided body tape I would have flashed every child who came to my door. I will be wearing this again next year - with a few alterarions to make sure I don't give out too many surprises :)
