(More customer reviews)so the major pro to this costume is that it is actually very cute on. i got lots of compliments and i didnt feel like i was wearing a child's costume all night or something that was made of plastic. that said, this outfit was successful because of all the extra work i did to make it good...
drawback #1 = extra care & prep work: this costume *must* be ironed before you wear it--unless youre into odd creases all over, including in the crumpled hat. i pressed my luck by ironing it not once, but twice so that i could wear it for a second night. it turned out ok-ish, though on two spots i left the iron linger a tad too long and i actually singed the material to the point that theres a hole now. whoops. the creases do come out quickly, but still, a definite risk of ruining the skirt if youre not careful. along these similar lines; every little spill shows, and shows badly. i pressed my luck again and washed the dress in a lingerie bag for the second night; a button popped off in the wash, but all of the stains came out. i doubt it will hold up to much more of either one of these activities though, so dont think youve just invested in a costume for the next 4 halloweens.
drawback #2 = the fit: the hat is a bit big, and i have a pretty normal-sized head, but it was kinda falling over my eyes for much of the night. not totally annoying, but i did notice it, and pretty much had to keep the hat on because when i did take it off, people didnt know what i was. as for overall fit, im glad i did my homework for what size to get. im a pretty standard size 6/8, and the large was a bit big in the waist, but fit great for my 36D bust. and speaking of my bust, wow, was this accentuated. anyone who wishes to leave a little to the imagination should wear a cami underneath. the skirt is actually longer than some of the other uber-short costumes out there, which i liked. the drawback to this was that the petticoat that i bought to go under it was too short and didnt stick out the bottom like in the picture. still, it gave the skirt a nice poof which looked great.
drawback #3 = Accessories required. after shelling out $50+ for the costume, you really need to continue to accessorize, if nothing else than with some thigh-high stockings. they do sell the exact ones with the black bows online here, so thats easy enough. i also bought a petticoat & a teapot, both on amazon, which really helped to bring the whole costume around. but when all was said and done, i had spent nearly $100 total. for that price, i would think that i could have found something a little nicer quality with less work involved.
bottom line, would i do it all again? probably not, but i dont completely regret this purchase. it was quite cute on, and fun to wear with its poofy skirt, fun stockings, and adorable cape. its over-priced for what you get, but so are most costumes, so no surprise there. guess it goes back in my closet for now....
